Cancer is a disease where cells divide uncontrollably leading to death. Cancer can be caused by external factors such as radiation or chemicals; internal factors like genetic mutations; or infections like HPV (Human Papilloma Virus). There are different types of cancer such as breast cancer, prostate cancer, lung cancer, colon cancer, etc.
Following are the facts of Cancer
1. Cancer cells thrive off sugar
Cancer cells consume glucose at a much higher rate than normal human cells. In fact, many types of cancer cells have been shown to actually prefer glucose over oxygen. When a tumor grows, the blood supply becomes compromised, causing oxygen levels to drop. Because cancer cells require oxygen for survival, they begin to consume glucose instead. The end result? A massive buildup of lactic acid, which causes the cells to swell and die.
2. Cancer cells love fats
Fatty foods like meat, cheese, butter, and eggs are high in cholesterol, which is great for our bodies. However, cancer cells cannot use cholesterol for their own growth, so they steal it from nearby healthy cells. Cholesterol is then converted to hormones that cause cancerous tumors to grow and spread throughout the body.
3. Cancer loves alcohol
Alcohol is toxic to the liver, but cancer cells don’t care about the damage caused by alcohol consumption. Instead, they use the ethanol present in alcoholic beverages to fuel their rapid growth.
4. Cancer loves salt
Many people unknowingly eat salt every day without even realizing it. But did you know that sodium chloride is highly addictive, and cancer thrives on it? Sodium helps cancer cells move around the body and enter other cells, while chloride provides the necessary ions that help maintain cellular function.
5. Cancer loves sugar
Sugar feeds cancer cells, making them grow bigger and stronger. Sugar also triggers the release of insulin, a hormone that promotes cancer growth. Too much sugar in the body may lead to diabetes, and studies show that diabetics are twice as likely to develop cancer.
